Solo exhibition by Salvatore Gumina “Sotir”
From 27 January until 11 February 2024
The personal exhibition of Salvatore Gumina, aka Sotir, will be inaugurated on Saturday 27 January 2024, at 4.30 pm, set up in the deconsecrated church of Villa San Cataldo, in Bagheria.
At the inauguration of the exhibition which enjoys the patronage of the municipality of Bagheria, the mayor of Bagheria Filippo Maria Tripoli and the municipal councilor Antonella Elisa Insinga, the president of the Order of Architects of Caltanissetta Piero Campa, Paolo Biaglio Mortellaro legal of the Marsala forum, and the president of “Pitturiamo” portal of contemporary painters Nino Argentati.
In addition to the inauguration of the exhibition of Sotir’s works, the program includes a conference-debate on current social issues on which the aforementioned Campa, Mortellaro and Argentati will speak.
The exhibition can be visited free of charge from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm from 27 January 2024 until 11 February 2024.
Salvatore Gumina from Nisse began working as an architect, continuing to represent architectural works and projects in search of a human-scale urban future. He took part in various ideas competitions, qualifying among the top positions and obtaining the first prize at the Asolo Art Biennale in 2010. From 2005 to 2018 he was involved in the Sicilian territory with exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in collective exhibitions. Furthermore, in 2011 he was involved in the planning of a hypothesis for the restoration of the Provvidenza district in Caltanissetta “Requalify to restart”. He participates in numerous conferences as a speaker on the urban and planning developments of the city of Caltanissetta and on other similar topics.
In 2020 he conducted his first personal painting exhibition in Caltanissetta entitled “A master and at least two affinities…”. In July 2021 he created the performance entitled “Metamorphosis of Emotions” in Caltanissetta. Numerous other exhibitions follow.
In June 2022, at the invitation of the Department of Culture of the city of Caltanissetta, he leads a lesson/conference on Architecture and art in the Bauhaus on the occasion of the “Festival of the New European Bauhaus”. This is followed by personal exhibitions, conferences, screenings, until the last exhibition in September 2023 with an exhibition at a personal exhibition set up in Taormina entitled “At the threshold of the precipice”.
Among his publications are the following monographs: – (Year 2016) Nisseni portals from the 19th to the 20th century; – (Year 2017) Corner headlines urban scenarios and curiosities “in the capital of the mountains”, Cantonali Nisseni from the 16th to the 20th century; – (Year 2019) Nisseni artefacts inside and outside the “walls”…wandering between countryside and city; – (Year 2020) The crazy little Sicilian hodgepodge.
