Synopsis. “The Great Lost Love” is a highly original book. It is a combination of a collection of poems and a treatise on poetic aesthetics, through short statements that do not pretend to be maxims, both in form and because they are bare of categorical imperativeness. In one paper the poem, next to it the explications about the author’s poetic intentions. And among the enunciations – as we have defined them – the one that assumes the greatest prominence places the emphasis on the simplicity of poetry: “Why is it that ancient poetry, Greek and Latin, has a simple language, alien to arzigogogues, immediately comprehensible – bile, even though it is complex and of the highest poetic value?” (From the preface by Antonino Cangemi).
