The “Whose Sea Is It?” Collective Is Born: “Festival for the Sea” in Aspra on May 9th
Saturday, May 9, 2026
After two years spent caring for our coast, including protection and awareness-raising activities for the sea around Bagheria and Santa Flavia, we felt the need to take a step further. Thanks to the associations that have always supported us—Next, Plastic Free, Bitmup, and the Bagheria Youth Council—we have decided to form a collective.
This path allows us to continue our journey in a flexible and welcoming manner, opening our doors to anyone who wishes to do their part and join forces for a protected, accessible, vibrant, and safe sea.
To mark this new beginning, we have organized the “Festival for the Sea.”
The event is scheduled for May 9th, starting at 5:30 PM at the Don Milani Center in Aspra, Bagheria. Gathering in this space has a special meaning for us: it is a property confiscated from the mafia and returned to the community, now managed and animated through a collaboration agreement signed by several local organizations, including Bocs, which contributed to organizing our celebration. We have designed a program that will engage everyone; here are the details:
● 5:30 PM – Greetings and introduction to the day’s activities.
● 6:00 PM – Treasure hunt and painting for the little ones. A fun activity curated and offered by Tutti nella mia tana and Plastic Free, who will teach children how to transform waste into useful objects, promoting marine conservation.
● 6:00 PM, concurrent with the activities for the little ones – Ideas workshop for the sea. A brief introduction by the new collective “Di chi è il mare” (Whose Sea Is It?), followed by an open discussion. An opportunity to gather ideas for the summer and discuss the present and future of our coast.
● 7:00 PM – Aperitif accompanied by a tasting offered by Pizzeria La Punta and U Barunieddu artisanal preserves.
● 7:45 PM – Live music. Concert by Matilde Mancuso.
● 8:30 PM – Theatrical performance “On Submerged Life and What Remains.” A sequence of performative scenes set on a occupied seabed. The sea welcomes, holds, transforms. Bodies adapt, organize, resist. What falls does not disappear. It remains, accumulates, modifies pre-existing life. And the memory of water continues to record. Curated and offered by Teatro Magro, directed by Vanessa Dalla Ricca. Final outcome of the Teatro di Sè workshop.
Admission is free; no reservations are required. The “Festa per il Mare” is made possible by the commitment of associations, artists, and sponsors. We thank them for demonstrating, once again, their commitment to our coast and our community.
If you care about the sea and want to spend an evening dedicated to beauty and sharing, we look forward to seeing you. It will be the perfect opportunity to discover how a confiscated asset can be transformed into a living resource for all of us, to celebrate together and begin to imagine, one step at a time, the future of our region.
