“Not Even with a Flower”: Bagheria and Aspra take the field against violence against women

The Passio Christi association, in collaboration with the Regional Department of Productive Activities and under the patronage of the Municipality of Bagheria, is commemorating the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” with the event “Not Even with a Flower.”
The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2025, in Aspra, in Piazza Monsignor Cipolla. The program includes awareness-raising sessions, debate, and art, aimed at building a culture of respect and combating gender-based violence. The event begins at 3:30 PM with a charity sale and awareness-raising event, during which local seafood products will be sold, with proceeds going to charity. At the same time, an exhibition of themed posters created by students from the “Falcone-Borsellino” State Comprehensive Institute in Aspra will be inaugurated. The highlight, at 4:30 p.m., will be the debate “Ways Out of Violence” in the former council chamber of “Villa Pia” in Piazza Monsignor Cipolla, a moment of discussion on the theme “Building a Culture of Respect.” The conference will be attended by the Mayor of Bagheria, Filippo Maria Tripoli, and the President of the City Council with responsibility for the seaside village, Andrea Sciortino, who supported the organization of the initiative. Regional Councilor for Productive Activities, Edy Tamajo, will also be present.
Presenting on the topic will be Dr. Linda Di Leonardo, psychologist at the “Luce” shelter (Luna Nuova Cooperative); Gisella Pecoraro, manager of the “Cassiopea” shelter (Luna Nuova Cooperative); Angela Granata, psychologist; and criminal defense lawyer Gaspare Affatigato. Moderating the meeting will be Marina Mancini, journalist and press office manager for the Municipality of Bagheria.
Following, after 5:45 PM, a captivating dance performance entitled “Rumore di Dama” choreographed by maestro Alessandro Napoli of the A.S.D. INTERNATIONAL PALADANZE of Bagheria will conclude the day.

“Participating in such a significant event is important for Aspra and the entire Bagheria community,” emphasizes City Council President Andrea Sciortino, who is responsible for the Borgo Marinaro district of Aspra. “We must join forces to ensure we remain vigilant against gender-based violence and work concretely to spread the values ​​of respect and equality, starting right from our community’s meeting places like the Borgo Marinaro.”
The Passio Christi association highlighted the objective of the demonstration: “Gender-based violence is an intolerable offense to human dignity and the values ​​on which our mission is founded. We invite the community to actively participate in building a society free from fear and promoting a culture of respect and equality among all citizens.”

Prime Minister Andrea Sciortino invites citizens to attend in large numbers to send a strong message against all forms of violence.
