Bagheria’s artistic heritage, centuries-old history, and culinary excellence have taken center stage on national television. Today, the popular Rai 1 program “UnoMattina Estate” visited the “City of Villas” with cultural commentator Massimo Cannoletta, who is embarking on a journey to explore the area’s beauty and traditions.
The visit began at Villa Cattolica—a historic monumental complex and home to the Guttuso Museum—where Cannoletta viewed works by the master of Neorealism, the collection of Sicilian carts housed within the estate, and the section dedicated to vintage film posters. The tour then continued to Villa Palagonia, known worldwide as the “Villa of Monsters” (*Villa dei Mostri*) due to its iconic grotesque sculptures. Municipal official Angelo Guerrera acted as host, welcoming the guest. While walking through the villa’s halls and gardens, Cannoletta engaged in a lively conversation with Martino Grasso—a municipal employee, journalist, and local history expert—who shared anecdotes, secrets, and insights into the historic noble residence, recounting details of its 18th-century origins.
It was not just about art and culture, but also culinary excellence: at Villa Palagonia, Michele Balistreri, president of the “La Piana d’Oro” association, accompanied by Rossella Scannavino, introduced the host to the hallmarks of Bagheria’s culinary tradition. These included the famous white *sfincione* (a local style of pizza), the distinctive “Piana” lemon, and the renowned local anchovies. Also in attendance were city councilors Sergio Cannizzaro and Francesco Gurrado, Guttuso Museum staff member Rosalia Chiello, and screenwriter Paolo Pintacuda.
Additionally, Massimo Cannoletta gave an interview to Marina Mancini, head of the municipal press office. The full interview video is available on the official website of the Municipality of Bagheria and on its official social media channels.
For those who missed the episode or wish to watch it again, the “UnoMattina Estate” segment is available on-demand on the RaiPlay platform.
