On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the “City of Villas” (Bagheria) will host an evocative, leisurely walk—a journey from the coast of Aspra to the Baroque historic center—that weaves together art, culture, and landscape, all within the context of the eighth Franciscan centenary. The municipality has joined the National Urban Trekking Day, now in its 23rd edition. Spearheaded by the City of Siena, the event will see 81 Italian municipalities embark on walks simultaneously on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The guiding theme for this year, “Saint Francis 1226–2026: On the Trail of the Essential,” commemorates the eighth centenary of the death of the Saint of Assisi. Bagheria will interpret this theme through an itinerary designed to strip away superficial appearances and rediscover the area’s authentic cultural, artistic, and landscape heritage. To ensure a seamless experience and allow for visits to historical sites—while accounting for Saturday morning closing times—the route will begin in the seaside village of Aspra before heading inland toward the town center.
Itinerary Title: “From the Horizon of Aspra to the Baroque Heart of Bagheria: A Journey on the Trail of the Essential”
The meeting point is Villa Sant’Isidoro De Cordova in Aspra, an oasis of 18th-century authenticity. From there, the group will make its way toward Villa Cattolica—home to the Guttuso Museum—a place where art strips reality of the superfluous. The route will take in Palazzo Cutò—a guardian of the city’s history—and the rejuvenating gardens of Villa San Cataldo, before continuing toward the noble origins of the area at Palazzo Butera and the Certosa (home to the Toy Museum, which evokes the purity of childhood). The itinerary concludes at the renowned Villa Palagonia, where the contrast between its eccentric splendor and the profound essence of the human condition offers a final moment for reflection.
