“The Island of a Thousand Senses”, photographic exhibition at Villa Butera
From 30 August to 26 October 2025
From 30 August to 26 October 2025, the rooms of the 18th-century Villa Butera will become the setting for a visual and sensory experience: the photographic exhibition ‘The Island of a Thousand Senses’ by Filippo Buttitta.
Through a series of images, the exhibition aims to show the essence of Sicily, from its landscapes to its faces.
The inauguration is scheduled for 30 August at 6 p.m. at Villa Butera, in the presence of city authorities and the authors of the project. The exhibition will remain open to visitors until the end of October and will also be part of the “Le vie dei Tesori” (The Streets of Treasures) event.
According to the organisers, the photographs are the result of years of work and are intended to be a sensory experience that goes beyond simple viewing. The author of the photographs, Filippo Buttitta, explained that the exhibition is his personal “ode to Sicily”, a way of recounting his experiences and feelings in every corner of the island. The exhibition explores different facets of Sicily, from traditions to Greek myths, from breathtaking landscapes to historical sites.
City councillor Anna Sorci described the initiative as a “gesture of deep affection for our land”, emphasising that each image captures the authentic essence of Sicily. Her intention is to offer a journey that excites and touches on intimate and identity-related aspects.
The president of the municipal council, Andrea Sciortino, also expressed his pride in the initiative, stating that Buttitta’s exhibition “restores a living and authentic land”. He also emphasised that the administration believes in the power of art as a tool for awareness and identity. According to Sciortino, Villa Butera is the ideal place to host such a profound story.
