The first names of the elite athletes who will participate in the 12th Trofeo del Mare – Bagheria, City of Villas and Taste, an event that has become a benchmark for Sicilian and national running, are starting to arrive. Among the women, the spotlight will be on Micheline Niyomahoro, an athlete from Burundi, who comes to Bagheria with the stated goal of breaking the course record held by our fellow citizen Anna Incerti, set in 2022 during her farewell race from competitive racing. Let’s remember that Anna Incerti was a true icon of Bagheria and national sport, with three Olympic marathon appearances and a long career studded with international successes.
Niyomahoro arrives in Bagheria in excellent form: she recently took second place in the prestigious Giro di Reggio Emilia, beating a large group of African specialists. In 2025, she also placed fourth at the Campaccio World Cross Country and second at the 5km Eset Run in Milan.
The Burundian athlete boasts top-level personal bests:
– 3000m: 8:54
– 5000m: 15:06
– 10km road: 33:22
– Half marathon: 1:13:09
With these results, Niyomahoro is poised to be a key player in the next edition of the Trofeo del Mare, ready to thrill the Bagheria crowd on the streets of Villas and Taste.
