At Villa Butera, Jana Carcara “without too much noise”

Saturday, November 29, 2025

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, the book “Without Too Much Noise” by Jana Carcara will be presented. This is her fourth collection of poems, with two more in the works. The event will be held in the theater hall of Villa Butera starting at 5:00 PM.
The collection unfolds along a true journey of the self, colliding with conflicting forces: on the one hand, the inexhaustible need to find meaning in life; on the other, the intrinsic unhappiness of man, with his solitary condition and the finiteness of the human condition. Page after page, the author leads the reader through an identity that ascends from the particular to the universal, taking on the burden of collective pain. The suffering of being there sublimates and becomes light, a feeling of profound humanitas, of participation and hope, precisely when, like an axe, a note bereft of the future falls on hope. Jana Carcara’s style is decisive and unmistakable – as defined by the poet and mathematics teacher Giuseppe La Spina – Away from stereotypes, clichés, refinements, or purely aesthetic preciosity. She maintains that definitions and artifices crystallize. They prevent a caterpillar from becoming a butterfly, or a pencil from exuding poetry. “Without too much noise,” besides characterizing this latest collection, is also the distinctive feature of her way of being. The author dislikes hubbub and parades, but rather the essence of questions and feelings. Her poetry is uncontaminated: it is hers, exclusively hers, and has an unusual strength. Disruptive at times, Jana Carcara, born in Enna but adopted by Bagheria, has carried out her entire teaching career in the city of villas, training many young people who, despite many years having passed, continue to gratefully appreciate her empathy and lively nature. Her extensive professional experience and the trials and tribulations of life make her sensitivity a natural fit for poetry, which is why it’s surprising that she’s only been writing and publishing for a few years. The accolades she’s received from respected juries speak volumes for her singular writing style, unmistakable features, originality of style, and content. Through her poetry, Jana Carcara has crossed provincial, regional, and national borders, even appearing at the Monastir International Festival of Art and Culture in Tunisia. Her other works include short stories, poetic prose, haiku, haibun, senryu, and tanka—forms of Japanese poetry. Four anthologies were published between 2016 and 2023: “Born on the Rock”, “Silences of Paper”, “Like a Dolphin Dance” and the award-winning “Without Too Much Noise”, which earned her first place and publication without contribution in the “La Pulce Letteraria di Marsicovetere” (PZ) contest. “Rammendo nuvole” will be published soon, and a sixth collection is currently being finalized, demonstrating her intense output in just ten years. The presentation of “Senza troppo rumore” on Saturday, November 29th will be a special moment, as Jana Carcara herself describes it: “A meeting dedicated to words, emotion, and beauty, an invitation to pause for a moment, listen to the music of words, and share an emotion.” The author will be in conversation with: Patrizia Allotta, writer; Giuseppe Bagnasco, poet and historian; Angelo Abbate, poet; and Giuseppe La Spina, poet and university professor. The meeting will be coordinated by Teresa Riccobono, poet and writer. Representing the Municipal Administration, the Mayor of Bagheria, Filippo Maria Tripoli, and the Councilor for Tourism, Francesco Gurrado, will offer official greetings.
